A NEW men-only Christian group is being launched in Leamington.

The informal 'Alpha Male' course, organised by Dale Street Methodist Church, will run at the Sozzled Sausage pub in Regent Street every Thursday for ten weeks from January 26.

It is being billed as a chance for men to meet, share thoughts and explore the meaning of life in an relaxed environment. After a free meal together and brief talk, different aspects of the Christian faith will be openly discussed.

Rev Andy Laird, minister at Dale Street, came up with the idea after seeing a TV interview with a male midwife who had run some men-only pre natal classes due to many men not wanting to show themselves up in front of partners or other women.

He said: “We hope we are able to reach out to those who are interested in finding out more but might be put off if it took place at church.”

The Alpha Course has been around since the late 1970s and really took off in the 1990s when it was adapted from its original format to make it more inclusive and appealing to a wider audience. It is designed primarily for people who don't go to church but are interested in the Christian faith.

The first session will start at 6.45pm on January 26.
